The construction of Bahrain's new Formula One circuit is nearly complete, according to race organisers.

"The brand new circuit is 89% completed according to the construction team's schedule," the organisers said.

Bahrain is set to become the the first Middle East country to host a Formula One Grand Prix on 4 April at the desert track south of Manama.

The track is set to be inspected by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) on 7 March.

Organisers admitted "work has been in operation around the clock" in order to make sure the track will be able to host the third round of the Formula One championship.

Bahrain beat fierce competition from Dubai, Egypt and Lebanon to win the contract to stage a Grand Prix.
