Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has backed Bahrain's new Grand Prix circuit.

Ecclestone visited the newly built track this week, which is due to host the Middle East's first Grand Prix near Manama on 4 April, the third round of the season.

"It's super, Bahrain International Circuit will be one of the best in the world," said Ecclestone.

"The standard is so high it's raised the bar so much."

Ecclestone has been a very vocal opponent of other rival circuits on the current F1 world championship calendar.

But the septuagenarian added: "I'm very impressed and I'm very happy with it (Bahrain's circuit).

"It will be a great event. If I wasn't directly involved in Formula One myself I'd be buying a ticket before they sell out."
