 Jordan wants to break into the Chinese market |
Eddie Jordan says he is interested in selling a stake of his Formula One team to potential Chinese business partners. The Irishman also revealed he wants to groom a Chinese driver who can go on to race on the F1 circuit.
"Maybe interests in Macau, Hong Kong or elsewhere can buy an exciting team," Jordan told Autosport magazine.
"I'm looking at something like that and I will do my best to help nurture the first Chinese F1 driver. We have a history of bringing on young drivers."
Jordan, who are based at Silverstone, have already established connections with China after striking a sponsorship deal with the country's television company CCTV.
Ralph Firman also drove the Jordan-Ford EJ13 in a special demonstration event at the Macau Formula Three Grand Prix this month.
The first F1 race to be held in China takes place in Shanghai next September and the owners of the circuit have asked for Jordan's help in setting up an academy for Chinese drivers. But, while Jordan is interested in building ties and receiving a cash injection from Chinese investors, he will only sell his majority holding if he can remain in charge of the team.
Jordan is not the only F1 team interested in stimulating interested in the Far East.
Williams have already signed up Ho Pin Tung, who won this year's Asian Formula BMW championship, as a test driver.
