| Frentzen quits Arrows ![]() Frentzen has been linked with a return to Jordan Sauber have emerged as favourites to sign Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who has quit Arrows due to "uncertainty" surrounding the future of the Formula One team. The Swiss-based Sauber team, who launched Frentzen's career in 1994, are reportedly unhappy with the performances of Brazil's Felipe Massa and may instigate the change. That could happen as early as the Hungarian Grand Prix on 18 August - the next race on the schedule.
A move to Sauber may depend on whether Frentzen sees his future there past the end of this season. "It would only make sense if we could sign Heinz for next year as well," said team boss Peter Sauber. Frentzen has also been linked with drives in 2003 for Toyota and Jordan - the team that sacked him midway through last season. "I am in the process of sorting out my future in Formula One as I am still in love with the sport and full of enthusiasm," said Frentzen. The 35-year-old is understood to have already had contact with Toyota. "It's an interesting team with nice people. I could imagine driving for them," he said. Deutsche Post, the Silverstone-based outfit's main sponsors, are understood to be keen on a German driver and Frentzen would fit the bill. His departure from the Leafield-based team was conducted amicably, both parties said. "Heinz told us that due to the uncertainty at Arrows, he wished to stand down and we did not want to stand in his way," said team principal Tom Walkinshaw.
"I'd like to wish him all the best and thank him for the hard work he put in at Arrows." Frentzen reciprocated his appreciation for the team he joined for this year. "I'd like to thank Arrows for the 12 races I have had with them," he said. "The team definitely have real potential so I hope they can sort their problems out and realise their goals. I wish every one of them all the best for the future." Frentzen's replacement at Arrows will be named before the Hungarian Grand Prix. |
