Williams star Juan Pablo Montoya has said that he is not worried by the fact that he may not win a race this year.

The Colombian has been on pole six times but has so far failed to win even though he has been world champion Michael Schumacher's most consistent challenger.

But Montoya, who has been second four times and third twice, said that he was not fretting about the fact that he could end the season without a win.

Montoya said: "I am not worried about winning one of those races which remain. In motor racing nothing is certain - you win some, you lose some.

"You get on pole and then nothing happens (in the race itself)."

Montoya pointed out that he often had worse luck in a race if he had qualified at the front.

"So it's sometimes better not to be first," he joked.

Often Montoya has been slowed in races by the tyre wear on his Williams car when he has been on pole.

He also suffered an engine failure in the closing laps of the Canadian Grand Prix when he looked to be on course for a win.

His other chances came at Malaysia and Brazil early in the year - but both times he clashed with Schumacher at the start, ending his hopes of a win.

Montoya's team-mate Ralf Schumacher took advantage of the tangle between the two rivals to win in Malaysia - Williams' only victory so far this year.

But Montoya has outqualified Ralf seven times in 12 races and is leading him by four points in the championship.

The two Williams drivers are battling with Ferrari number two Rubens Barrichello for second place in the championship.

Montoya said at a news conference in Colombia: "I see Rubens as my main rival. He has the better car and I will have to fight hard against him in these races. Then there's Ralf - but he doesn't worry me."

Montoya is not looking forward to the next race in Hungary on 18 August.

"This is a track I don't like - I don't feel too good on it and I don't have great memories of it. In 2001 I came eighth driving a car which had clear problems with balance," he said.

'Winning team'

He also reiterated his lack of interest in driving for Ferrari while Michael Schumacher is at the team.

"Going to Ferrari does not turn me on right now for the simple fact that Michael is number one and has that status laid down in his contract," Montoya explained.

"He has the whole team working for him so there would be nothing to gain going there (and having) an inferior car.

"Driving for Ferrari is simple press speculation which has no basis in reality.

"I know what I want in the future, which is to be in a winning team - and Williams is a winning team," he said.
