Tim Webster scored 10 points for Stoke Potters against Team Viking |
Stoke Potters made the perfect start to the 2011 season with a 51-38 victory in a challenge match against Scandinavian touring side Team Viking on Saturday. The Potters made a slow start, with Luke Priest and Alexander Edberg gaining a 5-1 maximum in heat one. But Stoke recovered soon afterwards and all seven riders contributed at least three points at Loomer Road. "I'm pleased with the performance," said manager Malcolm Vasey. "We got off to a dodgy start but battled back." He continued: "There is still work to do with a couple of riders but there is a great spirit and I'm sure we can have a good season with this team." Skipper Tony Atkin added: "It was important that we got off to a good start and everyone in the team got some good races under their belts. "The supporters have been disappointed over the past few seasons, it's time they were given some success and we'll do our very best to do that." The Potters will compete in another challenge match against fellow National League side Dudley Heathens at Loomer Road on 9 April.
