Swales' men face Eastbourne at the Showground on Thursday |
Peterborough Panthers boss Trevor Swales is expecting to face Poole Pirates in the Elite League play-offs. The Panthers secured their top-four spot with a 51-39 away win against Lakeside on Monday. Leaders Poole are permitted to choose their semi-final opponents and Swales expects the south coast outfit to opt for the Panthers. He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I just have a funny feeling that Poole might pick us." He added: "At the end of the day we can't do anything about it, if we want to win the competition we've got to beat everybody that's in it. Bring it on and let's have a good go." Swales' men turned in a good performance at Poole last Wednesday before eventually falling to a 50-39 defeat.

But depending on the outcome of the final Elite League meetings, the Panthers could still meet Coventry Bees, Wolverhampton or Lakeside in the semi-finals later this month. Swales continued: "I think it comes down to who wants to win most. I've got no doubts that our boys definitely want to win. "Everyone is there to be beaten. I think at some stage Poole are going to be beaten on their home patch, so if Poole pick us there's no reason why we can't go down there and create a bit of an upset." The semi-final pairings will be confirmed by Friday, with Poole's away clash with Coventry on Thursday set to decide whether it is the Bees or Lakeside who claim the final play-off berth.
