Motorbike racing returned to Donington Park on 13 August |
Donington Park can now host international motorsport events after regaining its racing licence. The circuit passed an inspection by the world motor racing governing body the FIA and the Motorsport Association. It is already allowed to host motorbike racing after getting an AutoCycle Union licence earlier in August. The track, which held its first race in almost a year on 13 August, can now host the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race in September. The track was left unusable after a failed bid by a previous leaseholder to host Formula One racing. The Adroit Group repaired the 2.5 mile circuit and brought it up to the latest safety standards. The Wheatcroft family, who own the circuit, have now taken control of the venue. Kevin Wheatcroft, chairman of Donington Park Racing, said: "Reinstating the MSA and FIA track licence now allows us to develop and implement plans for the future of the circuit and for the Donington Park estate. "There is still a great deal of work ahead of us but we already have a full line up of races over the next few months. We have an exciting future."
