Plater won the British Supersport Championship in 2009 |
Lincolnshire rider Steve Plater has returned to the track for the first time since breaking his neck and arm in a crash at the North West 200 in May. The HM Plant Honda racer, 41, completed several laps of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit at a track day on Wednesday. He told BBC Lincolnshire: "To finally put my leathers on and ride around the circuit was fantastic. "It's been a long road to recovery and you have good days and bad days but Wednesday was a major step forward." Plater, who is the reigning British Supersport Champion, feels he is on course to return to action in the British Superstock Championship at his home round at Cadwell Park at the end of August. He said: "I spoke to the circuit medics at the last round at Snetterton and they couldn't see any reason why I shouldn't return if I passed a medical. "Cadwell's only a few weeks away so all I'm doing now is trying to build up my strength in my shoulder and arm to make sure I'm fit enough for a full race weekend."
