Lincoln manager Chris Sutton began his playing career at Norwich City
Lincoln City held League One champions Norwich to a 0-0 draw at Sincil Bank in their final home pre-season match.
Albert Jarrett and Adam Watts, in his first full game since February, went close for Lincoln with Andrew Crofts having Norwich's best chance.
Imps manager Chris Sutton told BBC Lincolnshire: "There's still a lot of work to do but it's encouraging.
"We're not getting carried away with the results in pre-season but in terms of fitness I feel we're getting there."
Sutton used a new 4-1-4-1 formation in the game, with Drewe Broughton as a lone striker and Cian Hughton as a holding midfielder.
"When you play sides who are possession-orientated you can get outplayed in the middle of the park so in that respect we did well," said Sutton, who began his career at Norwich.
"There were positive performances throughout the team. Our work ethic was good and we caused them enough problems to change the way they played but in fairness I think they were trying a different formation as well. "
And Sutton felt Watts' first full match, five months after breaking his leg against Grimsby, was an added bonus.
"It was a serious injury but he came through the game well," he said.
"We weren't sure how long he would last and he was hobbling a little at the end but he has now got through a full 90 minutes."
