William Dunlop and Ryan Farquhar lock horns at the launch of the Ulster Grand Prix |
The organising Dundrod Club has confirmed that the 2010 Ulster Grand Prix will go ahead, despite earlier expressing doubts about its future. Clerk-of-the-course Noel Johnston had said in April that this year's races were in doubt because much needed funding had not materialised. Club President James Courtney commended last year's "exceptional racing". "We're confident that we can build on last year's success and continue to attract the top racers," said Courtney. "Last year we retained the accolade of 'World's Fastest Road Race' when Conor Cummins broke all existing records with a lap at over 133mph. "Although Conor will unfortunately be unable to defend his title this year because of injury, I've no doubt that others such as Ian Hutchinson, who were snapping at his heels last year, will be doing their best to match or better it this time round," added Courtney. McKinstry Skip Hire have been named as the new title sponsors of the race, which has also attracted additional financial support from Lisburn City Council and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. Practicing will take place on Wednesday 11 August, with further practicing and the Dundrod 150 races being held on Thursday 12 August. The main race day at Dundrod will be Saturday 14 August. Hutchinson, who won a record five races at this year's Isle of Man TT, has already been confirmed as a starter for the races.
