TT rider Conor Cummins has confirmed he will not be fit enough to ride in the rest of the motor racing season.

The 24-year-old Manxman came off his bike at the 'Verandah' on the mountain section of the TT course in Friday's Senior race.

He sustained a back injury, a fractured arm, a dislocated knee and bruising to the lungs.

Cummins is currently recovering at the island's Nobles Hospital but may have to be airlifted to the UK for surgery.

He praised the TT marshals and medical staff who dealt with his crash.

He said: "I don't know the names of the people who helped me but the marshals and medics were superb from the moment I had the accident.

"I'd also like to thank all of the staff in the Accident and Emergency Ward at Nobles Hospital who have been brilliant since I arrived."
