Niels Kristian Iversen ready for Peterborough return

Speedway

Peterborough Panthers captain Niels Kristian Iversen will return to Elite League action against Belle Vue after recovering from a broken shoulder.

The 27-year-old Dane returned to the track at the weekend as he qualified for the semi-finals of the 2011 Grand Prix qualifying championship.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I have been injured for a long time and it's never easy in the first meetings.

"But everything went well and I am really pleased to qualify."

Iversen had hoped to be back from injury sooner.

"I tried to have a practice one week before, but it wasn't the best and I could feel there was a bit further to go," he said.

"But this weekend, I could feel the extra week's progress and it feels as good as it can be."

Peterborough have struggled to pick up points away from home this year and are fourth in the Elite League, 21 points behind leaders Poole.

"It's frustrating not being able to help the team, but there have been a few changes and i think everything will settle in now I'm coming back," he said.

"We have a few new boys so I think it should be better but we can't leave it too long."

Panthers take on Belle Vue on 25 June at the East of England Showground.
