Woffinden made his Grand Prix debut at Cardiff last summer |
Grand Prix newcomer Tai Woffinden will be the Wolverhampton skipper as they defend their Elite League title. The Scunthorpe-born 19-year-old made a huge impression in his first full season in the top flight. "Of course this is a massive honour for me, but I have to say the role of captain in a speedway team can be overplayed," said Woffinden. "I tried to help my team-mates last season when they needed it - we had a great team spirit." The Australia-raised rider earned his spurs in the lower leagues before his breakthrough year in 2009, and he is glad to have another Grand Prix star alongside him at Monmore Green in the guise of Freddie Lindgren. | I am captain in name only, but it is an honour for me |
"It's a team effort and Freddie will be on hand to help the rest of the guys just as much as me. I am captain in name only, but it is an honour for me," he noted. Wolves begin their season with a Challenge match at home to Coventry Bees on Monday, 15 April, with their Elite League defence starting against Swindon at Monmore a fortnight later.
