Nieminen joined Workington in 2002

Former Comets rider Kauko Nieminen has been confirmed to appear at Workington's 40th anniversary celebration meeting on 27 March.

Nieminen, now an Elite League rider with Lakeside, was brought to the Comets from his native Finland by boss Ian Thomas in 2002.

"It was one of the best bits of business I have done," said Thomas.

"He's always been a gentleman to deal with, a very good rider for the Comets and one who is liked and respected."

Thomas added: "It's great that he is coming back to ride on what is a very special day for the club."
