Hartlepool swept past Carlisle to post their first win in eight games.
Pools took an early lead when Ritchie Jones lobbed keeper Adam Collin, but Carlisle levelled four minutes later through Scott Dobie's header.
The hosts regained the lead when Joe Gamble's set-piece was met by Antony Sweeney and Gamble himself made it 3-1 when his corner flew straight in.
Jones, who had earlier struck the bar, made the game safe when he latched onto Roy O'Donovan's pass and fired home.
Hartlepool director of sport Chris Turner told BBC Tees:
"I think that result at home is a massive performance and a massive result for everybody,"
"For the supporters - who turn up week in week out and have some frustrating afternoons, I think it's a great result, for the players and everyone connected with the club.
"It lifts confidence and morale, it's nice to see the players score and take chances which we haven't been doing against top sides in the last six weeks."
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria:
"We've been here before. We've had poor performances before, people doubting us.
"We've reacted to that in a positive manner. I've asked everyone to take a bit of responsibility. I take most of it as the manager but I think we have to share that.
"I've got a tremendously honest dressing room. I said 'if you can offer me some sort of excuse for your performance, then do so or we must take it together'."
