Plans for safety changes to Val des Terres course

The Guernsey Motorcycle and Car Club is considering changing the Val des Terres hill climb course in St Peter Port to make it safer for competitors.

The club has applied for permission to raise the bank towards the top of the hill by the entrance to Fort George.

Ian Le Page, the club's hill climb chairman, said it followed concerns from the sport's governing body about safety in the area.

The course is one of the stages in the National Hill Climb Championship.

Le Page said concerns were raised over how the scaffold poles and boards, currently used as barriers around the bank, could cause damage to a driver involved in a crash.
