Hale is in sixth place overall with one round left in the championships |
Bristol's teenage motorsport star Mitchell Hale claimed second place in the Ginetta Juniors championship race at Rockingham, Northamptonshire. In the penultimate round of the season the 15-year-old from Clifton drove a superb race to step on to the podium for the second time this season. "My start was really good but then the safety car came out which was a bit annoying," said Mitchell. "But I kept my cool as I really wanted to get on the podium again." Mitchell now lies sixth overall in the standings with a tally of 288 points and is preparing for the final round of the championship at Brands Hatch in two weeks time. "I really like Brands Hatch and we're racing on the Grand Prix loop which is great," added Mitchell. "It's a long track so there are plenty of places to make up time; it should be really good. "My aim this year has been to learn the tracks, but if I could grab another podium - especially a win - at Brands then I'll be very happy." The Ginetta Junior series is for racers aged 14-17 as the next step up from kart racing and supports the British Touring Car Championship.
