Aston Martin chairman David Richards says he is delighted after his Banbury-prepared cars earned the 2009 Le Mans Series championship.

Jan Charouz, Tomas Enge and Stefan Mucke sealed victory with third place in the final round at Silverstone.

"It's fantastic that 50 years on from Aston Martin winning the World Sports Car Championship, Aston Martin Racing has triumphed again," said Richards.

"It is an impressive result and I am extremely proud of the whole team."

Driver Jan Charouz said: "It's a very good feeling. We have worked hard all season and then it finally happened and we won the championship.

"We had a conservative strategy and at one point it didn't look like we would finish on the podium, but we managed to finish third which was a great achievement as the opposition were very strong."
