Birchall wants repeat title win

Tom Birchall says winning the 2009 World Sidecar Championship with brother Ben is what he has always wanted.

Tom, 22, has also become the youngest ever passenger to be crowned world champion following the Mansfield pair's success in Le Mans, France on Sunday.

And he told BBC East Midlands Today the achievement is all the more special as older brother Ben was behind the wheel.

"It's amazing. It's what I've always wanted. It's a special bond you can communicate without speaking," he said.

"The relationship works really well. He's been spot on this year and it's a lot for a driver to think about."

Ben, 32, added: "It's just fantastic. It was the longest race of my life and it didn't feel like it was going to end.

"All the hard work paid off and no one can take that moment away from us.

"Tom was superb. He is the best passenger in the world and he does his job superbly."
