Robins stay top with another win

Leigh Adams
Adams' new track record beats the one he had set in August 2007

Swindon are just one step away from finishing top of the Elite League after their 55-40 win over Poole on Monday.

The victory gives them a one-point lead over second-placed Wolverhampton going into the final meeting of the campaign against their title rivals on Thursday.

Leigh Adams was the Robins' top scorer with 13 points and told BBC Wiltshire it has set up a showdown.

"They're going to be fighting for every point so it should be good, I'm really looking forward to it," he said.

"It was a good performance, everyone did their job and maybe a little bit more."

Adams, who has been the Swindon skipper since 2004, also took more than half a second off the Abbey Stadium track record, which now stands at 63.86 seconds.

"Track records are good, you know you're fast," he added. "I made a good start and worked the inside line, it's nice but I'd trade any track record for a win on Thursday."

A draw on Thursday would be enough for the Robins to finish top, as they have a superior points difference to the Wolves who beat Peterborough 56-36 on Monday.

Swindon - Leigh Adams 13, Ryan Fisher 5, Simon Stead 10+1, Travis McGowan 7+1, Matej Zagar 9, Paul Hurry 5+2, Morten Risager 6

Poole - Hans Andersen 11, Joe Screen 0, Leon Madsen 5, Bjarne Pedersen 6, Chris Holder 14+1, Paul Fry 0, Steve Boxall 4
