Young Australian rider Darcy Ward returned to the King's Lynn Stars team as they beat bottom club Newport 46-44 in speedway's Premier League.
Ward suffered a fractured ankle at Edinburgh just over three weeks ago and it was feared he would be out of action for much longer.
Despite falling in his first race, Ward came back to win two races and scored the winning points against Newport.
The win extends Lynn's lead at the top of the table to five points.
King's Lynn Stars promoter Buster Chapman was pleased to see Ward back in the team.
"It'll take a few weeks to get back to his best but I don't think it'll take that long," Chapman told BBC Radio Norfolk.
"All the riders are working well as a team. They all scored good solid points last night and that is really what matters."
"If we can just keep winning at home and scoring points away then that's all we need to stay at the top of the table, and that's fantastic for us," he added.
The Stars have a five point lead over Sheffield at the top of the Premier League table with two matches in hand.
The team is next in action at the Norfolk Arena against Berwick on August 5.
