Newcastle Diamonds recorded their biggest win of the season with a 64-24 thrashing of Redcar Bears on Sunday.

The visitors began well, taking the lead with a Ty Proctor win in the opening heat, but Newcastle soon hit back and eased to victory.

Mark Lemon top-scored for the Diamonds with 14 points, while Danish pair Kenni Laursen and Rene Bach both notched 11.

For Redcar, Gary Havelock top scored with nine, but Carl Stonehewer failed to register a single point.

Newcastle team manager George English said: "This was a magnificent effort in a tense local derby.

"I'm so proud of the Diamonds tonight - it was something very special."

Next up for Redcar is a home meeting with Berwick in the Premier League, while Newcastle travel to Sheffield Tigers in midweek.
