Storm slipped out of Open contention following the third round |
Graeme Storm closed off at the 138th Open Championship with his best round of the week, a one-over-par 71. However, Storm headed back to Hartlepool frustrated that he did not finish much higher up than tied for 52nd at Turnberry. "I didn't get what I deserved," he told BBC Sport. "Missing that short putt on 18 encapsulated the whole week for me. "I should have been nine or 10 shots better off, purely down to missing putts," he added. Storm went to the turn with his best front nine of the week in one under, thanks to a birdie at the long 7th, and he was still one under for his round on the 14th tee. But he then bogeyed four of the last five holes, slipping in an eagle at 17 in between, to slump to a 71 which he put down to a bit of tiredness. "I've had four weeks on the road and that's done me in," he said. "And I'll be having a week off before going to the Czech Open. "There's not a lot wrong other than my putting," added Storm, who has had eight top 20 finishes this season and is ranked 43rd in the European Tour's Race to Dubai. "I've played pretty decent all week. I just haven't had the rewards with the putter."
