Ipswich 47-41 Wolves

Stoke Potters' Lee Complin served up 5+2 on a guest appearance for Wolves

Wolves missed their chance to move closer to leaders Swindon at the top of the Elite League as they went down 49-41 at Ipswich on Thursday night.

The Witches had British Grand Prix rider Scott Nicholls in top form with 13 points from his five rides.

Wolves worked hard to stay in contention after hitting back from a 34-26 deficit after 10 heats.

But Nicholls had the last word with a fine ride in the final heat to leave Peter Adams' men empty handed.

Freddie Lindgren, the league's top rider, recovered from a slow start to the meeting with his first win of the night in Heat 11, Nicolai Klindt joined him for a Wolves maximum.

Lindgren then won a second successive race in Heat 13 to hand the Monmore men a good chance of claiming a point from the meeting, held on a wet track after rain close to the start time.

But Danny King won the vital penultimate race.

That left Wolves needing a 4-2 from the last to claim another precious away point by losing by less than six points or less.

But, in the last race, which needed a re-run after Robert Miskowiak fell, the powerhouse Lindgren and Karlsson combination failed to deliver - and Nicholls came through.

IPSWICH: Scott Nicholls 13, Daniel King 10+1, Robert Miskowiak 9+2, Tobias Kroner 6+2, Troy Batchelor 5+1, Dawid Stachyra 5, Carl Wilkinson 1

WOLVERHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren 9+1, Adam Skornicki 9, Peter Karlsson 9, Lee Complin 5+2, Tai Woffinden 4+2, Nicolai Klindt 4+1, Hynek Stichauer 1+1
