Tomas Topinka lost out in a last-heat decider at Somerset |
King's Lynn Stars narrowly lost the first match of their Premier League campaign 46-44 against Somerset. The match was decided in the last heat which had to be rerun three times after Tomas Topinka was pushed out twice by Somerset's Steve Johnston. Topinka eventually retired from the race and team-mate Chris Schramm could not catch the Somerset riders who made sure of the win. Teenager Darcy Ward was top scorer for Lynn with paid 18 points. King's Lynn Stars are in action again on Wednesday in the Premier Trophy at the Norfolk Arena. They can secure a place in the semi-finals if they win against Stoke. The meeting starts at 1945 BST.
