Higgins may leave British Rally

David Higgins has said he has grown so frustrated with the current British Rally Championship situation that he may compete elsewhere next season.

The comments come after a court hearing to decide the results of the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire was postponed.

The outcome was also hoped to finally confirm the 2008 BRC Champion.

"The longer this goes on, the more we're inclined to look at different options for 2009 and leave the BRC behind," said the 36-year-old.

The 2008 championship went all the way to the last round in Wales with David Higgins, brother Mark and Guy Wilks all in contention.

Guy Wilks won the final rally of the season to provisionally give him the title but the result of the Yorkshire event remains unclear.

Wilks won the event but was disqualified, giving victory to Mark Higgins.

It gives potential sponsors a bad image of our sport and makes a mockery of all the money we have invested in the team over the last year.

An appeal by Mitsubishi was successful, again awarding the event to Wilks, but that has yet to be confirmed.

FX Team Manager Hugh Evans said, "We're extremely disappointed that the hearing was postponed.

"I don't see how we can continue with the BRC when issues like this are allowed to persist for so long.

"David led the championship for most of the season, and we did well in the team championship too but without a final decision we can't use where we finished as a tool to raise sponsorship - it's just too late.

"It gives potential sponsors a bad image of our sport and makes a mockery of all the money we have invested in the team over the last year."

Higgins added: "We feel extremely let down by everything that has happened, and feel the 2008 championship has become a farce.

"Hugh and I must think seriously about the best way forward for FX Motor Sports this year."

The 2009 British Championship starts on the Bulldog International Rally of North Wales on 28 March.
