Andrew Pitt winning the WSS race at Phillip Island 2008 (Keith Muir) |
Andrew Pitt won his second Supersport world championship in seven years after claiming the 2008 title in France. The Peel-based Ten Kate team champion started the 22-lap race Magny-Cours from the front row of the grid alongside team-mate Jonathan Rea. But Rea's early lead ended with a clip to his back wheel on the tight Adelaide hairpin on lap nine. And, after battling with Barry Veneman and Josh Brookes, Pitt eased away to win by over a second. Apart from Pitt's individual success, it was a seventh successive championship for the Ten Kate team and the Honda CBR600RR machine.
