Friesacher claims first win
| | Austrian Patrick Friesacher won his first Formula 3000 race of the year by mastering tricky conditions in a wet-dry race at the Hungaroring. Enrico Toccacelo and then Friesacher passed championship leader Vitantonio Liuzzi as early rain abated. Toccacelo lost the lead when his pit crew fumbled their pit stops, and Friesacher held off a charging Liuzzi as the track dried late on. Toccacelo came third to lose further ground to Liuzzi in the title chase.
