James Thompson boosted his hopes of winning the British Touring Car Championship with two high finishes at Snetterton on Sunday.

Giorgio Pantano won his second Formula 3000 race of the season to move to within 12 points of the championship lead on Saturday.

Bill Elliott overtook Winston Cup points leader Sterling Marlin with 19 laps to go to win the Nascar Pennsylvania 500 on Sunday.

British Touring Cars
Englishman James Thompson led home Frenchman Yvan Muller for a Vauxhall one-two in the sprint race at Snetterton on Sunday.

EggSport Vauxhall driver Matt Neal led away from pole position but was soon troubled by rising temperatures and he was passed by Thompson after a caution period.

Behind him, Muller, from seventh on the grid was quickly up to second after a storming first few laps on the Norfolk circuit.

Muller survived heavy pressure late in the race from Andy Priaulx, who took third.

Roles were reversed in the feature race, when Thompson set the pace from pole only to be overtaken by Muller.

Neal featured strongly at the head of the field and set the fastest lap of the race, but he was left frustrated by an enforced retirement on lap 19.

Formula 3000
Italian Giorgio Pantano has kept his hopes of winning the Formula 3000 championship alive by dominating Saturday's race at Hockenheim.

Pantano led from start to finish and watched championship leader Sebastian Bourdais and close rival Tomas Enge both crash out.

That means Pantano is now 12 points behind Frenchman Bourdais and seven behind Czech Enge with a maximum of 30 points available in the remaining three races.

Bourdais spun out after just three laps, while Enge was knocked off the track by Ricardo Sperafico on lap 16 to end his hopes of taking over at the top of the table.

Pantano finished almost nine seconds clear of Arden International's Bjorn Wirdheim.

Rodrigo Sperafico of the Durango Formula team was third to take a podium place for the first time since the second race of the season.

Bill Elliott powered his Dodge Intrepid past Winston Cup points leader Sterling Marlin with 19 laps to go Sunday to win the Pennsylvania 500 on Sunday.

The race was shortened from 200 laps to 175 after rain and a spectacular first-lap crash caused delays of more than three hours.

The win was Elliott's first since since Homestead last November, his fifth victory at Pocono Raceway and the 42nd of his career.
