The British Olympic Association have named Somerset's Sam Weale as modern pentathlon's athlete of the year. The Yeovil-based 28-year-old picked up the award after winning a silver medal at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Hungary. Weale became the first British man to win an individual medal at the Championships which were held in July. The BOA awards aim to recognise the top performers in each of the 33 winter and summer Olympic sports.
