Woodbridge struggled after an impressive swim

Nick Woodbridge failed to emulate Great Britain's women as he finished down in 32nd place in the men's final at the European Championships in Leipzig.

Woodbridge, the only one of Britain's four men to reach the final, headed into the final discipline in seventh.

However, the 22-year-old struggled in the run/shoot and finished well outside the medals on 5,468 points with Ondrej Polivka the winner on 6,060.

Woodbridge, Sam Weale and Gareth Evans came 11th in the men's team event.

Pentathlon GB performance director Jan Bartu said: "Nick spent over three minutes on the shooting range today and he couldn't recover from that.

"It was frustrating for him, but it's a learning experience too, so we can learn from that."

Britain's women won the team gold, while Heather Fell claim silver in the individual competition and the team win gold.

They return to action on Monday in the team relay.
