| Lewis throws down gauntlet to Tyson Lennox Lewis: Another belting performance Lennox Lewis has told Mike Tyson to "put up or shut up" after knocking out Frans Botha in the second round of their world heavyweight title fight. In probably his final farewell to the British crowd, Lewis sent Botha into the ropes with a lethal three-punch combination to retain his title. Lewis, who is adamant he will not hang around much longer for the former world champion, said: "I've just got one message for Mike Tyson, put up or shut up."
He may next go into another unified title defence against New Zealander David Tua. But Lewis added: "David Tua has fought nobody and I'm happy to give him a go. "I felt good about my performance and I was well prepared for this one. Special "It was very special to fight in Britain and show the fans how much I've improved. I'll try to come back again." On rumours that he would retire if he did not get a fight against Tyson, Lewis said: "I'm happy to go on even if I don't fight Tyson. "I felt really good. I'm here to give punches not take them. "I hit him with my right hand and no fighter can take my punches. Nobody can get away from my right hand." Offer
"Tyson is not ready to fight Lewis yet. But I think the world would pay to see him get a spanking from Lennox," Eliades said. Lewis was never going to go the way of the fighter in 1994 who was shockingly stopped by Oliver McCall at Wembley Arena during what was said to be his last fight in Britain. Lewis' manager Frank Maloney added that it was unlikely that the Tyson would fight would ever happen. "What we saw last night will make the Tyson fight even harder to make." A tired looking Botha admitted: "He caught me with a great shot. He is a big man. Give him all the credit - he can hurt any fighter." But he refused to be drawn on who would win a Tyson-Lewis showdown, saying: "It would be an interesting fight." |
