Fisher's best Open placing is joint 13th at Turnberry last year |
Ross Fisher was left cursing himself at St Andrews after a loose second shot at the Road Hole cost him a double bogey. The Surrey golfer still carded five Open birdies in a stunning back nine 33 for a 68 that helped him get right back in the tournament on three under par. But Fisher, who made just one birdie on the supposedly easier front nine, knows that it could have been even better. "Bad club, I hit the road and it went out of bounds, but I bounced back and birdied 18 for 68," he told BBC Sport. "I hit a little five iron in at 17, slightly misjudged the wind, it didn't knock it down, it pitched on the path and went over the wall. | 606: DEBATE |
"I then hit a three wood at 18 and it would have been nice to hole it for eagle, but I'll take a 68." After his one lone front nine birdie at the long fifth, Fisher had made four birdies in six holes when he picked up shots at 10, 13, 14 and 15 prior to his lapse of concentration at 17. "I hit some quality shots," he added. "A good tee-shot and a good pitch on 12, I made good up and down on 14, another good shot on 15 and had a chance on 16 too."
