McIlroy carded six bogeys and five bogeys in round one at Sun City |
Rory McIlroy is five shots off the pace after the opening round at the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa. The 20-year-old McIlroy appeared out of sorts from the start and was reported to have been put on a drip during a two-hour thunderstorm suspension. He carded a one-over-par 73 and needed two closing birdies to prevent him falling further adrift at Sun City's Gary Player Country Club. Australia's Robert Allenby shot an opening 68 to take a one stroke lead. Just behind are South African duo Tim Clark and Retief Goosen. McIlroy's round left him propping up the 12-strong field with Nick Watney and Ross Fisher. Robert Karlsson, Hunter Mahan and Henrik Stenson are tied for fourth after opening 70s, with Angel Cabrera on 71 and Luke Donald and Richard Sterne firing 72s.
