Barham has never won on the European tour |
Ashford's Benn Barham says he can see himself winning a tournament on the European Tour this season. Barham, 33, just missed out on his maiden victory at the Austrian Open but his second-place finish means he has a good chance of keeping his card. He told BBC Radio Kent: "About 40,000 euros (prize money) will move me up from 126 on the rankings to inside the top 115 - where you need to be. "But I'm looking for more, I want to win before the end of the season." He added: "I want to smash through that 115 and not be counting euros come the end of season to see if I've managed to keep my card. Kent's top professional has endured a disappointing season until last week, when he was pipped by Spain's Rafael Cabrera Bello - who shot a tour record equalling final round of 60. Barham has credited his change in fortunes to new coach Robert Watts. "I went to see a new coach about three weeks ago, who works with a few other tour players - Darren Clark and Scott Drummond," he said. "There's nothing against my old coach but I just felt I needed something refreshing, just a different direction to kick-start my season and it has worked out wonderfully."
