Solheim call-up thrills Brewerton

Becky Brewerton admitted relief and excitement after winning a wildcard place in Europe's Solheim Cup team.

"I'm completely relieved," said the Welsh golfer, 26, who will be appearing in her second Solheim Cup despite missing out on automatic qualification.

"I went home to get away from it all and when [European captain] Ally [Nicholas] told me I shouted some expletives down the phone."

Rich Harvest Farms, Illinois will host the Cup from 17-23 August.

Europe will be looking to prevent the US from completing a hat-trick of victories in the biennial matchplay contest, following wins at Crooked Stick, Indiana in 2005 and Halmstad in 2007.

606: DEBATE

The US have won the trophy seven times to Europe's three.

Nicholas had the tougher task of the two captains in selecting her three wildcards.

Swede Anna Nordqvist was an obvious choice, but Scotland's Janice Moodie and Brewerton were preferred to 2004 British Open champion Karen Stupples.

The top five on the European points list and four more from a special Rolex rankings list made the team by right.

Brewerton, from Abergele, made her debut in the event at Halmstad, winning one match, halving another and losing a third.

Her hopes of winning an automatic selection for this year's tournament ended on Friday when she missed the cut at the Women's British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

Europe: Gwladys Nocera (Fra), Tania Elosegui (Spa), Diana Luna (Ita), Laura Davies (Eng), Sophie Gustafson (Swe), Suzann Pettersen (Nor), Helen Alfredsson (Swe), Catriona Matthew (Sco), Maria Hjorth (Swe). United States: Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford, Kristy McPherson, Nicole Castrale, Brittany Lang, Christina Kim, Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Natalie Gulbis. Wildcards: Juli Inkster, Michelle Wie. Non-playing captain: Beth Daniel.
