Brewerton hopes to force her way into Europe's Solheim Cup team |
Becky Brewerton won the Spanish Ladies Open by six shots after a fourth-round score of 70 at Panoramica Golf Club. The win boosts the Welshwoman's hopes of making Europe's Solheim Cup team after opening rounds of 65, 69 and 66. Brewerton, 26, led by five overnight and held her nerve to finish on 18 under, while compatriot Breanne Alicia Loucks shared second place on 12 under. "I've not been in the position where I've been ahead that many times before," Brewerton told BBC Wales. "I much rather it be that way than be six shots behind having to work extremely hard to come back," she said. Brewerton is now likely to play at the Evian Masters in France later this month, where Cup points are doubled. Europe play the United States for the Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois from 17-23 August. England's Elizabeth Bennett was among those to finish joint sixth while Laura Davies ended one place lower.
