Hoey takes sixth place in Madeira

Michael Hoey secured a top-six finish in Madeira

Michael Hoey finished in sixth position at the Madeira Open after firing a final round of one-over-par 72 to end on two under for the tournament.

The Belfast player started badly with a double bogey at the third and then carded three birdies and two bogeys during the remainder of his round.

Argentine Estanislao Goya won on six under with Damien McGrane tied for third on four under following a 72.

Michael McGeady signed for a 78 to end the tournament on seven over.

Scot Callum Macaulay was second on five under, with Wil Besseling third on four under.

Michael Hoey shot a four-over-par 75 on Saturday to fall back to fourth place on three under par at the Madeira Open.

Estanislao Goya of Argentina leads on eight under following a 69 while Damien McGrane is second on five under after carding a 70 in his third round.

Carlos Rodiles signed for a 71 to lie in third position on four under.

Michael McGeady endured a disappointing day and lies in eighth place on level par after registering a six-over 77 on Saturday.

Hoey recorded four birdies, four bogeys and two double-bogeys in his third round.

McGeady posted two early double-bogeys and then carded a further two birdies and four bogeys.

Jonathan Caldwell missed the cut after a 74 left him eight over and Simon Thornton was 18 over after a 77.
