Hoey and Caldwell win Tour Cards

Michael Hoey and Jonathan Caldwell have both claimed European Tour cards for next year after qualifying from the six-round Tour School in Spain.

But Michael McGeady has missed out by one shot after bogeying the last.

Hoey produced the round of his life to fire a closing 67 in Catalunya while Caldwell held his nerve to qualify right on the top-30 mark of six under.

After four early bogeys, Caldwell held his nerve to par his final three holes for a 74 which proved good enough.

A par at the par-four 18th would have ultimately been enough to secure Derryman McGeady one of the precious cards but he took a heartbreaking bogey.

The final-hole dropped shot saw McGeady signing for a level-par 72 which left him on five under.

McGeady had birdied the first and the third but he was soon to drop four shots in three holes after he bogeyed four and five and double bogeyed six.

He recovered well to birdie seven and eight which meant that he turned in level-par 36.

A birdie on 15 left McGeady on course to squeeze in right on the cut mark but his closing bogey shattered his hopes.

McGeady was in a share of 33rd place - a stroke outside the qualifiers.

Caldwell got off to a terrible start in his final round as he bogeyed four of his opening five holes.

He recovered to birdie six and seven but a bogey at the ninth saw him turning in 39.

The Clandeboye man birdied 12 only to bogey 14 but he got back in the top 30 by picking up a shot on 15 and held his nerve to par the final three holes.

That left him in a share of 29th place with three other players.

A 74 would also have proved good enough for Hoey to earn his card but he produced a magnificent final round.

A bogey at the fifth was wiped up by birdies on six and seven before he cut loose on the back nine with two more birdies and an eagle at the long 12th.

The other Irish player in the field, Simon Thornton, ended in a tie for 54th on level par after a 71.

Sweden's Oskar Henningsson maintained his overnight lead to win the Tour School by four shots.
