Couples and Norman are both experienced Presidents Cup players |
Former world number ones Fred Couples and Greg Norman have been named as captains for the 2009 Presidents Cup. Australian Norman will take over the Internationals team from South African Gary Player and Couples succeeds fellow American Jack Nicklaus for the US.
The match, between the US and players from nations outside Europe, will be held at Harding Park in San Francisco.
"I am absolutely delighted to introduce two great players as new captains," said PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem.
"It may not be easy to replace two legends such as Jack and Gary," he added.

"But I know both Fred and Greg step into this role with a strong passion, commitment and desire to continue the outstanding legacy Jack, Gary and all the previous captains have created for The Presidents Cup."
Couples, winner of the 1992 Masters, is a veteran of four Presidents Cups as a player while double British Open champion Norman has appeared in the Ryder Cup-style competition three times.
The US won the Presidents Cup for a fifth time in Montreal in September 2007.
