Woods struggled with Furyk against Singh and Appleby
Tiger Woods suffered his worst-ever matchplay defeat as a professional on day two of the Presidents Cup.

Woods, playing with Jim Furyk, lost 5&4 to Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby as the International team pulled within 7-5 of the USA in Montreal on Friday.

Mike Weir made seven birdies in 17 holes as he and Ernie Els beat Charles Howell and Zach Johnson 3&1.

But the only USA team to win a point was Steve Stricker and Scott Verplank, who beat Adam Scott and KJ Choi 2&1.

Singh and Appelby played superbly in a score of 11 under par as they dominated world number one Woods and Furyk.

Fijian Singh holed a bunker shot at the first for birdie before making an eagle from the fairway at the par-five sixth. Appleby later eagled the par-five 12th by sinking a 32-foot putt.

"We needed the point," Singh said. "We needed something to boost our guys up."

Retief Goosen and Angel Cabrera scored a one-up victory over Phil Mickelson and Hunter Mahan when Cabrera rolled in an 11-foot birdie putt to win their match one-up on the 18th hole.

Nick O'Hern and Geoff Ogilvy battled hard against Americans Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover all day. Their match also reached the final green, where Ogilvy made a four-foot birdie putt to secure another one-up win.

The final group of the day saw Americans Woody Austin and David Toms win two straight holes to be all-square with Trevor Immelman and Rory Sabbatini going into the last, which they halved.
