Ballesteros with his winning European team in 2007 |
The postponed Royal Trophy match in Thailand between teams from Asia and Europe has been rescheduled for next January, organisers have revealed. The Ryder Cup-style event was due to be contested for the third time this January, but was postponed after the death of Thai princess Galyani Vadhana.
"It will become one of the world's great competitions," said event founder and European captain Seve Ballesteros.
"It will play a similar role for Asian golf as the Ryder Cup did for Europe."
The Royal Trophy follows the Ryder Cup format, with a mixture of foursomes, fourballs and singles matches, although it does not feature all of the the world's top-ranked players.
Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam were captain's picks in the Europe team that won that first staging of the event 9-7 in 2006.
Last year Ballesteros' side claimed an emphatic 12-3 victory over Joe Ozaki's Asian side.
