Holywood's Rory McIlroy is likely to regain his place at the top of the World Amateur rankings after winning the European Nations Championship. McIlroy birdied the final hole of his final round to force a play-off with Marius Thorp of Norway and McIlroy then birdied the first play-off hole to win.
McIlroy shot a level par 72 in the final round to finish alongside Thorp on seven under par.
Ireland finished second in the team event behind Norway with England third.
The Holywood teenager goes on to play in next week's European Tour event, the Portuguese Open.
