Furyk leads four-man Grand Slam
Jim Furyk
Furky was the only player not to drop a shot at the Poipu Bay course

R1 LEADERBOARD:
-5 J Furyk (US)
-4 G Ogilvy (Aus)
-2 T Woods (US)
-1 M Weir (Can)

Jim Furyk holds a narrow lead over his three rivals after the first round of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii.

The American carded a five-under-par 67 to head Geoff Ogilvy (-4), Tiger Woods (-2) and Mike Weir (-1).

The 36-hole event at Poipu Bay should boast the four major winners, but Masters champion Phil Mickelson opted not to play. His place went to Weir.

With Woods winning two majors, Furyk was given a berth for finishing second on the PGA Tour money list.

Furyk was the only player to card a bogey-free round.

He had trailed Australian Ogilvy by one shot before birdies over the final two holes saw him move to the top of the leaderboard.

Woods, who beat Mickelson, Michael Campbell and Vijay Singh to last year's US$500,000 prize, struggled to keep his drives on the fairway but sunk five birdies to stay in contention.

A double-bogey at the eighth undid Canadian Weir's challenge.
