Ian Woosnam has not ruled out another Ryder Cup captaincy |
Ian Woosnam says there is a possibility of him becoming captain of the European Ryder Cup team again. The 48-year-old led Europe to glory at the K Club last month, beating America comprehensively 18-9, before making way for Nick Faldo to take over.
"I did say that I would do it once and that would be it," Woosnam said.
"But I can see circumstances where it may just be possible for me to allow my name to go forward again for consideration."
Woosnam insisted he would attempt to get into the 2008 team to play in Kentucky as a member of the side.
"That may be a remote possibility, but I have not given up hope and intend to give it my best shot," he added.
 | Bradley Dredge is playing very well and improving every year |
After seeing how the K Club hosted the event, Woosnam is keen for the Celtic Manor - the next European venue for the clash against America in 2010 - in his native Wales to build on that.
"Ireland did a great job. They invested heavily in the Ryder Cup in order to maximise the tourism and business benefits and they have set the bar high," Woosnam said.
"The whole of Wales is up to the challenge."
Woosnam believes there may well be a Welshman in the 2010 Ryder Cup, with Phil Price having played his part at the Belfry in 2002 but no Welsh player making the 2004 or 2006 teams.
"Bradley Dredge is playing very well and improving every year. There are, of course, others and the aspirations for Wales are high," said the victorious skipper.
Woosnam is still disappointed at the criticism levelled at him by Thomas Bjorn, who was not given a wild card.
"I felt I did nothing wrong and in fact was absolutely right in the way I handled the situation," Woosnam said.
"I have played in many Ryder Cups and been left out, but no captain has come up to talk to me before the event.
"There are 10 automatic spots and you should play in enough events and get enough points to make the automatic line-up and not rely on wild cards."
