Woosnam was considering quitting the game after the K Club win |
Jubilant European Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam has challenged his players to excel as individuals after their emphatic 18-9 team win over the USA. "Hopefully they'll turn this team success into success at majors," he said after arriving back in London.
"They just have to believe in themselves and win loads of majors.
"European golf is looking very strong. We have a young bunch who played so well. A lot of these guys will be in the team for a long, long time."
Woosnam, who turns 50 next year, said he almost felt like retiring from the sport after Sunday's K Club win.

"I've nothing left to achieve now and I almost feel like retiring. But that'll probably change in a couple of days," said the Welshman.
"I've spoken to (2002 captain) Sam Torrance and he felt the same way."
After taking the captaincy last year, Woosnam slumped to 88th on the European Order of Merit, his lowest position since 1981, and he finished this season in 136th place, without a single top-10 finish.
Woosnam admitted the stress of captaining the side had taken its toll.
"I feel 50 years older," he said. "There were times when I didn't eat properly and had a churning in my stomach.
"I'm glad I had the experience as vice-captain to Sam. It's a massive, massive tournament - it goes to a billion homes and there's a lot to do.
"It was not until the last couple of hours on the last afternoon when I saw all the blue (European wins) on the board that I felt relief."
