Saturday's Open quotes
Open contender Chris DiMarco is trying to stay cool, calm and collected
Open contender DiMarco is trying to stay cool, calm and collected
"The golf course is pretty quick and these are the most difficult pin positions I've seen in the Open Championship to date."
Tiger Woods reflects on the state of course after carding a one-under 71 to lead by one shot going into the final round at Hoylake.

"Sergio played beautifully. What a wonderful round of golf. To take it that low with those pins and these conditions was great. It will be fun for both of us to go out and try to win."
Woods pays tribute to Sergio Garcia, who fired 65 to climb into the final group on Sunday.

"As soon as you do, you slap yourself in the face and say, 'Stop thinking about it until it's over'."
Chris DiMarco, joint second going into the final round, refuses to let his mind daydream about winning the Open.

"I know there's divine intervention. My mom's name is Norma, and I got on the first tee, and the scorer's name is Norma. And I've probably only met about five Norma's in my life. It was weird. I got goosebumps and told my caddie, 'She's right up there with us'. So I've got somebody up there that's going to be looking over me tomorrow."
DiMarco, whose mother died two weeks ago, reveals the secret ingredient in his 69.

"Today was a thrill with the people, and all the cheers coming into the greens were amazing."
Sergio Garcia ignited the Hoylake crowd with his front nine pyrotechnics on Saturday.

"I could easily have shot 76 or something but somehow I find myself still one shot off the lead. So that's bonus."
Ernie Els is relieved to have ground out a 71 after admitting struggling with his set-up.

"I haven't seen the press room or the weekend at the Open for a while."
Jim Furyk is relieved to be asked some questions after missing the cut at the last five Opens.

"At this moment I'm not really thinking about history, I'm thinking about Cabrera."
Argentine Angel Cabrera is two off the lead and in with a shout of emulating countryman Robert de Vicenzo, the last man to win the Open when it was staged at Hoylake in 1967.

"I hit a great bunker shot, got a little bit excited and tried to jump out and caught my foot on the side. I can't lift my legs as high as I used to. I jarred it again but nothing severe. I thought I was over the worst of it but I'll grit my teeth and play tomorrow."
England's Greg Owen, who spent most of his round swapping physio numbers with partner Phil Mickelson, explains the near-tumble which almost sparked a recurrence of his ongoing muscle injury.
