Jimenez won on his Wales Open debut last year |
Miguel Angel Jimenez expects a tough task as he tries to become the first man to defend the Wales Open, which starts at Celtic Manor on Thursday. The Spaniard, 42, tore up the par-69, 6,743-yard Roman Road course last year, closing with a record-equalling 62.
But this year he faces another quality field, which includes US Open champion Michael Campbell and Colin Montgomerie.
"I loved my first visit, the tournament has again attracted a very classy line-up," said Jimenez.

"I knew that the course would present a tough challenge last year so I was delighted to win by four shots, this year my aim is to put in another strong challenge."
Campbell, preparing to defend his US Open title at Winged Foot, will be making his fourth appearance at the Celtic Manor event, having finished joint 15th last year.
"It's vitally important I play well at the Wales Open as it's my last event before the US Open in two and a half weeks," said the Kiwi.
"It worked well last year and I'm hoping it'll have the same effect this year.
"I need to build up a head of steam with some good performances because as reigning US Open champion there's huge expectation surrounding me."
