 | SECOND ROUND SCORES GB & Ire unless stated -8 Christina Kim (US), Paula Creamer (US) -6 Annika Sorenstam (US) -5 Laura Davies, Carin Koch (Swe) |
Annika Sorenstam shot a 66 to move within two strokes of the leaders at the halfway stage of the Evian Masters. American youngsters Christina Kim and Paula Creamer share the lead on eight under, with Sweden's Sorenstam now on six under.
Kim, 21, and 18-year-old Creamer, both repeated their opening rounds of 68.
England's Laura Davies (70) and Carin Koch (73) of Sweden are tied for fourth on five under.
Sorenstam said: "Yesterday I wasted a lot of chances. Today I converted most of them and so I'm very happy.
"Today there was some light in the tunnel and I'm very pleased with my halfway position."
World number one Sorenstam, who won the event in 2000 and 2002, could only card a 72 in the first round on Wednesday.
Michelle Wie,15, followed up her opening 75 with a 70 to lie nine shots off the pace on one over.
Kim had a handful of birdies and dropped her only shot when she three-putted the long seventh.
Creamer had more of a roller coaster ride with seven birdies - including four in a row from the seventh - and three bogeys.
She finished her round in style, holing from five feet for a four at the par-five 18th.
Creamer is looking for her second career win to boost her chances of making her debut in the Solheim Cup at Crooked Stick in Indiana in September.
"I'm so focused on making the Solheim, and I know the next two weeks are very important," said Creamer.
"I wish I was a few more shots in front, and Annika's not far behind. But I'm pretty pleased with where I am."
While Creamer is at number 13 on the Solheim rankings, Kim is currently fifth and is almost certain to make the 10 automatic selections.
"There are five more tournaments so I'm all but safe, but it would be nice to pick up some good points this week," she said.
"This is my third time at Evian and I've finally managed to play well here."
